Unemployment of youth in Nigeria has become an epidemic that only a well –
directed education system can bring
about the desired change, it is true that the Nigerian education is more
literary and academic, often times lacking
practical and professional skills, making the Nigerian youth
unemployable.
Teachers
and academic institution need to incorporate entrepreneurship education in the
education system so that graduates can be self -employed,for instance in
Germany ,young people undergo a three-year apprenticeship programme which
provides adequate qualification for youth employment, this has made
unemployment of Germans the last in the industrialized world.
Teachers
and academic institutions need to play the role of change agent in the Nigeria
education sector by placing emphasis on self -directed learning where learners
experience become a source of learning, learners can learn from their own
unique experience making the individual more dynamic, leading to individual employability.
